Gaturro Statue Vandalized in Buenos Aires

Briefly erected tombstone sparked controversy

Statue removed following vandalism

In July 2022, a statue of the popular comic character Gaturro was vandalized in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The statue, which was located on the Paseo de la Historieta, was spray-painted with graffiti and had its head decapitated.

Following the vandalism, creative vandals briefly erected a tombstone next to the statue that read "RIP Gaturro 15723 16723." The tombstone sparked controversy, with some people criticizing the vandals for their disrespect and others praising them for their creativity.

The statue was later removed by the city government, which said it would be repaired and returned to the Paseo de la Historieta.
